Variety at the Ball

Lindsay Carmichael, the man with the yellow car, reports on the Variety Ball and the Bash

It was a fundraiser for the Variety Club, the money raised is to go towards disabled and disadvantaged children in the Northern Territory. We'd like to thank the people of Tennant Creek for arriving at the show, paying their ticket money, enjoying the show and being involved in the fashion parade and the auctions. Variety Club events have been running in the Northern Territory since 1991, this is the seventh Bash. Every State has their own event and every five or six years there is a National Bash where everybody finishes up in the one spot. The idea of the Bash is to raise money through a variety of events. This fundraising is done by the people who go on the Bash, the money they raise is then given to Variety, the actual cost of staging the events is born by the Bash crews. So none of the money that is raised from the functions goes to us - it all goes to Variety. On the night of the Ball we raised a tad over seven thousand dollars. We'd also like to thank Mr Greg Targett for the use of his hotel. Also the girls in the Fashion Parade, the Tennant Security guys for their free service, the staff that cleaned up afterwards, the chef, all the people who sponsored us with their prizes for the auction, Mick Adams on the microphone and everyone that turned up. Thanks Tennant Creek.
