Welcome to the first issue of Barkly News Pictorial. Our aim is to provide a vehicle for anyone who has something to say to the community that is the Barkly region.
As a general rule of thumb, if you provide a service to the community free of charge, then we will publicise your activities for free. If you sell your services to the town then we would like to sell you an advertisement.
The survival of a magazine depends on keeping readers informed and entertained with both editorial and advertising performing this role.
This issue is being distributed free to all Post Office box and bag holders, the town camps and other major areas throughout the Barkly. Extra copies are available at our office opposite the newsagency during normal hours.
From the second issue onwards, we will sell Barkly News Pictorial at the newsagency, the service stations and at other venues to be announced. Keep your eye out for it around the end of March or come to the Tennant Creek & Barkly Expo, see the team in action and pick up a copy.
We've got a good-news story coming up in the April issue regarding the restructuring of the C.E.S. and the whole job training market both here and throughout Australia. Julalikari Council has won a tender to provide the Commonwealth Government's new employment services to unemplyed people and employers in this region. The news is still fresh from the Minister's desk but by the time we next go to press we'll have the whole story.
So, there you have it. Get those contributions flowing in, especially those of you who have an arty or literary side lurking within and just waiting to burst out given an opportunity. Here is that opportunity.
Gemma Buxton is the person to see if you've got news to spread or an idea that needs a vehicle.
See you at the Expo ...
