ANOTHER MONTH,
another mag. (Yes, I know it's been even longer this time.)
This issue has had to be a solo effort with the departure of Gemma to the greener pastures of the University of New England. It is true that you don't realise how much a person does until they stop doing it.
Anyway, thanks Gemma for helping the magazine get off the ground in 1998. Perhaps we'll see you back this way one day.
Another reason for the delay in producing 1999's first Barkly News Pic has to do with the weather. Our office is not the coolest place to be on a stinkin' summers day and it takes its toll on both people and machines.
After the umteenth computer malfunction I looked in the manual to see what temperatures they are supposed to be able to stand. The laser printer is rated to operate between 10° and 30°C so it's no wonder it struggles a bit.
Strangely enough it stops every now and again in hot weather with the alert: "Waiting for printer - warming up"!
I'm waiting eagerly for the day when computers are fully voice activated, so that when it says, "can't find scanner", or printer or whatever, I can yell:
"Look, it's right there next to you, you stupid machine!"
Until next month or whenever ...

Paul Cockram
