ANOTHER MONTH, or perhaps a season or two, and once again the Barkly News Pictorial hits the streets.
Sorry about the delay but time flies when you're having fun or being busy or with a bit of luck, both.
When I have been baled up on the street with: "When's that magazine of yours coming out again?" or: "Are you still doing it?" I've taken refuge behind the Territory election, promising to bring one out whenever that was to be.
For most of this year I've been watching the news for signs that it would be called and ended up thinking to myself, "Thanks Burkey, I can put it off a bit longer."
Of course eventually he called the shot and we all had to get our bums into gear. I would have liked a week or two more thanks Denis but I understand these decisions are based on more than the deadline needs of a tiny regional magazine.
Inevitably, this is an overly political issue and if you're not into all the claims and counter-claims, sorry, at least it will be over soon.
There are quite a number of new ventures underway in this part of the world but it takes time to get the full story and we will get them in the next issue.
Desert Harmony should make a pleasant change from the 'desert division' of the past few weeks. The railway has brought some fairly serious-looking characters to town and there'll be plenty of stories to tell there.
On a different note, I've shot a lot of video over the years of events around town and with the advent of affordable digital editing I have started to compile some highlights of life in and around Tennant Creek.
If all goes accoding to plan, I will have some of these highlights on VHS tape ready towards the end of the year for anyone who wants to keep a record for posterity or to send to those not fortunate enough to live in such a nice place as the Barkly region.
